5. Develops and administers Branch Healthcare Security Competency Tasks and its associated checklist in collaboration with Area management.

6. Maintains a positive, professional environment in full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; acts to ensure that staff members understand and comply with applicable laws, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.

7. Authorizes appropriate expenditures including equipment, supplies, and vehicles; ensures vehicles are properly maintained and administers driver training; ensures adequate inventory of uniforms, radios, etc.; maintains and submits payroll records and other required information. 8. Ensures scheduling is handled effectively to meet client requirements while controlling labor costs; reviews site reports to ensure post orders and client directions have been followed. 9. Provides input to company, Region and Area initiatives; promptly assists in the resolution of legal, financial, human resources, and administrative issues. 10. Performs additional functions, duties and specific tasks of a similar nature and scope as necessary in order to achieve assigned business objectives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT ENTRY

Must have the ability to plan, organize and implement administrative and operational programs and procedures, which includes the development of budgets. Must have knowledge of and have experience with parking and transportation systems and its related issues or problems.

Education/Experience: Associate’s degree or College graduate preferred with emphasis in Administration of Justice, law enforcement, security, or criminology or have an advanced military background.

Must have at least five (5) years of experience in the security, parking, or related field; with at minimum of three (3) years in supervisory or managerial level, preferably in healthcare environment. Additional relevant experience can be substituted for the required education on the basis of one calendar year of experience for one academic year of education.

Must posses a valid current California driver’s license. IAHSS certifications are preferred. CHPA (Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator), CHSP (Certified Healthcare Safety Professional) or HEM (Certified Healthcare Environmental Manager) designations are desirable. Competencies (as demonstrated through experience, training, and/or testing):

• Knowledge of security operations.

• Knowledge of Healthcare operations, management and human resources administration.

• Use of personal computer and computer program software.

• Ability to synthesize business/financial data and develop solutions.

Transportation Security Administration officials hope the first uniform you see when approaching an airport checkpoint will soon be a TSA uniform.

Depending on whether Congress will fund the change, TSA officials want to have their uniformed officers take over from private security companies the job of administering the first ticket and personal identification check, before travelers proceed to TSA security checkpoints.

Security guards do not have:

The same job duties as peace officers;

The same powers as peace officers, according to the law.

What happens when a security guard PRETENDS to be a peace officer?

Any security guard who pretends or even implies (lets others think) that he is a peace officer is committing a crime. A person who is found guilty of impersonating a peace officer could be punished by a fine or county jail sentence and his registration may be denied or revoked.

What are a security guard’s ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES?

A security guard’s role is to PROTECT people and property of his employer or contracted clients.
A security guard’s responsibility BEFORE an incident/offense has occurred is PREVENTION.

I came across this listing for sale. I'm not in the business as a security agency, although I've worked in the periphery and have worked as an employee of agencies in the past. I often wonder about the financials of such a business.

Let's see. $375,000 asking price but they'll entertain an offer of $250,000 as a starting point. The revenue is a shade under $1 million. The adjusted net is $169,814. Hmm, let's see. It's a labor-intensive business. Something like that is not difficult to start and not that cost-intensive, but the key in getting an existing business is getting all the existing accounts. That's what you're paying for. So, if you want to consider buying such a business, you should check out the reputation and good will of the current business.

Opening a New Facility

I'm currently using the Airport Office Plaza, across from the Torrance Airport along Crenshaw Blvd, in the city of Torrance, to conduct some classroom training in CCW for the Utah and Florida gun permit. I use the conference room there for non-range oriented training.

Soon, I'll be signing a lease for a permanent office there, so I will be able to conduct more extensive training.

City Passes Nightclub Security Laws - Cameras Required at Doors

NEW YORK -- The City Council passed measures Wednesday - about a year after the death of a Massachusetts woman -- that require security cameras at nightclub doors and make it easier to shut down businesses that sell fake identifications.

Graduate student Imette St. Guillen, a Boston native, was abducted, raped and killed last February. An unlicensed bouncer at a Manhattan bar where she had been drinking was charged in her death.

Rosemarie Arnold, a lawyer for St. Guillen's mother and sister, said the family was grateful the City Council had acted to make nightlife safer.

Guards, improve your capability (and marketability) with OC Pepper Spray Certification

The more credentials you have, the better it is when you seek your next guard job. The number one credential in most people's mind, of course, is the BSIS firearms permit. That's pretty obvious and you actually increase your hourly pay with that permit. Number two on the list would be the BSIS baton credential, and many agencies are looking for guards with that credential.

One sometimes overlooked carry is OC pepper spray. It helps your job. There are levels of force that's necessary in this job at levels much less than when deadly force is involved, and even less than with the use of the baton. There's a lot of legality involved in this, and you need training. You can't just go out and carry OC pepper spray without the training and credential. Please know this.

However, it's not difficult to get that credential. There are several training companies that offer the training and can offer you the credential. The cost is reasonable and is often less than $100. Be sure to make sure that the training facility is certified for teaching OC pepper spray.

"Surveillance Cameras Saw Trouble, Police Stopped It" - Redlands Daily Facts (CA) (02/23/07)

A surveillance camera system in downtown Redlands, Calif., recently helped police prevent a potential assault. Police dispatchers were monitoring the cameras from the Police Department's Dispatch Center when they noticed a man in a crosswalk who was aggressively confronting pedestrians. Dispatchers continued monitoring the situation while dispatching officers to the scene who arrested the man for public intoxication. Police say that the pan-tilt-zoom cameras act as "force multipliers" and allow police to prevent a crime in progress or even prevent a crime from occurring. "I would much rather put someone in jail now for being drunk in public than arrest him later after a fight or an assault," said Police Chief Jim Bueermann. The four-camera surveillance system was funded via $75,000 in state and federal technology grants.

Other clients include heirs and heiresses who attend local private schools and universities, and rich clients from the Middle East who visit Boston to use its hospitals. Members of the city's executive protection industry say that CEO protection is one of the hottest areas of the business. Industry insiders say that executive protection focuses not just on preventing physical dangers, but on preventing embarrassing incidents.

BSIS Launches Statewide Compliance of Security Guard Training Requirements

Beginning January 2007, The Bureau of Security and Investigative Services will be launching statewide compliance inspections of security guard training requirements. Bureau representatives will be conducting scheduled and unscheduled visits/inspections of Private Patrol Operators (PPO’s) to verify compliance with guard training and related recordkeeping requirements. Additionally, these visits will provide an opportunity for the Bureau to provide assistance to PPO’s that may not be in compliance with statutory requirements.
